Get the Look: Rustic Scandinavian Kitchen Design Ideas

This week on the TV series Le Grand chantier RONA, Team Blue opted for a rustic kitchen decor with a Scandinavian touch, a soft colour palette, and natural wood accents that add warmth. Keep reading for kitchen design ideas and to find out how to recreate the look at home!

The Inspiration for this Rustic Kitchen

In this rustic-style kitchen, we played around with textures and emphasized the organic feel by integrating natural materials such as real wood and a marble finish. The result is a welcoming and uncluttered space.

A Neutral and Soothing Colour Palette

Light, neutral shades create a soft, versatile, and timeless backdrop. A light grey palette with subtle green undertones is a perfect choice for this kitchen. In addition to working well with natural materials, such as wood, it makes darker colours richer and lighter shades more vibrant.

Pro Tip

In the kitchen, it’s essential to choose paint with a washable, durable finish, like Sico’s Clean Surface range.

Elegant Two-Toned Kitchen Cabinets

A two-tone scheme is an excellent way to give a kitchen depth and personality. By playing with colours and finishes, you can delineate zones while creating contrasts without darkening the space. In this kitchen, we love how the walnut Bali cabinets and the polished bronze finish of the hardware blend with the soft grey-green of the Aberdeen shaker-style cabinets.

Appliances that Enhance the Room

State-of-the-art LG appliances enhance the room’s appearance while adding to its functionality. We chose stainless steel for its timeless, versatile look as well as its fingerprint-resistant finish. We also selected high-tech models offering innovative features: a stove with air fryer mode, a refrigerator with see-through door, a dishwasher that sends notifications to a phone, and more.

Pro Tip

French-door refrigerators are an ideal choice for small spaces or big families, as this door design takes up less space when open.

Unique Accents to Personalize the Space

When used in a restricted, delimited area such as a backsplash, wall tiles add a classy touch that contrasts pleasantly with the more neutral elements that surround it. Textured or patterned tiles are a great way to add personality to a space, while creating a focal point that catches your eye as soon as you enter the room.

Functionality: A Key Aspect

This kitchen is all about functionality. That means lots of storage and counter space, as well as a design where you can walk around at ease. In short, the goal is to enhance convenience and optimize space without cluttering the room.

A Durable Flooring that Adds Warmth and Style

Engineered wood is an excellent option for the kitchen, offering both unrivalled durability and the warm look of natural wood. Here, we opted for an on-trend contemporary shade with light golden tones.

This Week’s Challenge

In this kitchen, the wood accents add a warm, natural touch while personalizing the space. But this woodworking project can be quite challenging! Even in a new construction, it should not be assumed that the base structure is perfectly straight and square. It’s important to measure twice, cut carefully, check angles, and make adjustments so that everything is perfectly straight and aligned. Not to mention, make an effort to hide all the screws. Rigour and impeccable finishing touches are what makes this type of project a success.
