Bar counter

A small balcony often goes hand-in-hand with living in the city. Sometimes, a little creativity is needed to optimize the space without hindering its comfort. This bar counter offers the same practicalities as a table but takes up much less space. An original way to make the most of the area.

See the plan for plank dimensions and the assembly instructions.

1

Cut the wood

  • 1.1 - Cut the 1" x 10" board into two 36" pieces, forming the tray.
  • 1.2 - Cut the 1" x 6" board into two 36" pieces, forming the reinforcements.
  • 1.3 - Cut both 1" x 4" boards into one 36" piece and one 17 ¾" piece.
  • 1.4 - On one of the extremities of both 17 ¾" pieces, cut a 30 o angle.
  • 1.5 - Measure the width of the handrail on the top of the ramp. It can measure between 1 ½" and 4".
  • 1.6 - Take the measurement in 1.5 and mark it on the length of one of the 1" x 4" x 36" boards and cut with a circular saw.

Pro Tip

The thickness of the counter’s base must be the same as the balcony’s ramp.

Assemble the parts

  • 2.1 - Assemble the tray using the 2 - 1" x 10" boards placed side-by-side and the ramp width board. Glue the pieces together, pre-drill, and screw into place.
  • 2.2 - Assemble the sides using the 1" x 4" x 36" and the two 1" x 17 ¾" boards. Glue the pieces into place, pre-drill and secure with screws.
  • 2.3 - Glue, pre-drill and screw the two reinforcement pieces into place. These help keep the tray on the ramp.
  • 2.4 - Pre-drill and screw two corner braces to solidify the tray and the reinforcements.
3

Protect the wood

  • 3.1 - Stain each piece, making sure to cover the cut marks properly.
