Rated 1 de 5 de par This charcoal is terrible. Barely gets hot. Burgers take forever to cook. Nowhere near the quality of regular briquettes, never mind proper lump charcoal.

Rated 3 de 5 de par Mostly harmless . . . DON'T PANIC! Xylo Carbone may not be "all bad". I think It could be used for good cooking results, in some situations, even though my experience has not been great. Read on, if you have interest and some time (which is just an illusion). I have used Xlyo Carbone Signature Lump Charcoal for most of the last year after purchasing several bags of it when RONA was selling it at a discount. The Sigature Lump is a good product. One USA based reviewer - the Naked Whiz - recently gave it their highest rating. When I went to buy more of the Signature lump, I found the price was up to $25 for the 7 kg bag and this Xylo Block was at a reduced / clearance price. I succumbed to temptation, while being skeptically optimistic (not having read previous reviews), and bought one bag. They had dozens - I could come back and buy more, I rationalized, if I found it not absolutely inferior to lump! My use of the product was in a large Big Green Egg (kamado) and for cooking salmon (with potatoes and asparagus), chicken kebabs (with pepper, onion, tomato), tuna steaks and tandoori chicken. When I saw the size of these blocks, I realized there would be some challenge to lighting them, because I use an electric thermal loop starter - which works very well with lump (but not quite as well with the blocks). Nevertheless, I was able to get the blocks burning, though they took longer than lump to heat up to around 400 degrees (farenheit) after removing the starter. As mentioned by other reviewers - and the producers - this material did not burn very hot. I wanted to sear Tuna steaks, as I would with lump, at above 600 degrees but with the top and bottom vents fully opened (and nothing inside the kamado except the blocks and grate) the temperature peaked at about 510 degrees (with about 10 blocks in the fire box). When I place a perforated steel tray in the kamado, the highest temperature achievable was about 490 degrees. I gave the steaks another minute more per side than I would have at the higher temperature. This worked out okay. My wife and I found the steaks cooked as we like them and, yet, with more smoke flavour than I recall getting with lump. The smoke flavour, from this product, while different from what most maple / birch / beech lump mixes provide, did not seem terrible. I found it strong but not unpleasant on the tuna and tandoori chicken. On the salmon filets, asparagus and chicken kebabs, though, it was less pleasing. It was close to what I would call acrid, or pungeant (perhaps akin to mesquite smoke), where a mild smokiness on those foods is our preference. Another observation I was disappointed to find was that my cooking platter (a perforated pan) ended up with a coating of burned, dark, residue - a combination of PAM grilling oil and the smoke of this Block product, it seems. It took a lot more time to clean the platter. It was the worst with the higer temperature cook. Most of the residue came off with application of Easy-Off but not all. To conclude: I think there may be some applications where this product may work well for. Previous reviewers liked it for yakitori (I cooked our chicken skewers with chunks of haloumi, which tasted very somkey) but I would not recommend it for most kamado cookers. The product could work well, in kamados where a long, low to moderate temperature cook is required - for cooking a turkey, for example. When a large volume of lump is lit, it can be a challenge to keep the temperature low. If not enough lump is used for a longer cook, it causes inconvenience, at the very least. Perhaps users of the extra large kamados - such as those in catering and restaurant settings - may find this product useful (i.e. for intermittent use over long periods). I do not regret buying this product, as the price was fair, the cooking results were fair and I learned a fair bit from using it. As I had issues with temperature control and range, did not find the smoke quality to my preference and did not like dealing with the residue on my cookware, I will not buy this product again but now have some insight as to why (the local) RONA is discontinuing stocking it. So long, and thanks for the soot.

Rated 1 de 5 de par Avoid this one I tried to like it but it's just not good. The flavour is terrible, it's hard to light, it doesn't burn even, and it's expensive.
