I would like to put this at the side of my house. What is the total width based on the top rail, which is wider than the outside width post to post?

Can a gate be attached?
Yes, a gate can be attached to the Fairfield arbor. In fact we have one, called the Cottage Picket gate, that is designed to fit perfectly.

Can this arbor be used as a swing stand?
We would not recommend using this arbor as a swing stand. It is not designed to hold that type of weight.
