Happy with the look but disappointed with leaking
I was originally going to buy the polycarbonate panels, but I knew someone who was happy with these. I installed them late last summer and fall. This season they have leaked, mostly in the same spots, during a heavy rainstorm. At first I thought it was an installation problem, so I checked the screws above the leaks to make sure that they were sealing properly. After more leaks appeared, I now believe that in a heavy rain the water will splash underneath the overlap. Leaks have been inconsistent. There are about 5 spots on 28 feet of panelling, each of which may or may not leak for a given rainfall, but the latest one to appear has been more consistent and is the worst. The slope of the roof is very low. We have a lot of pine needles falling on it, which I think can get between the layers at the joints. Not a good combination, but I have no idea what to do about it. It is very difficult to do anything once the panels are all in place. In hindsight I should have gone with the polycarbonate, not because of their increased strength, but because of the shape, which I think would eliminate the problem that I am having.
I have seen reviews which say that they are difficult to cut and break easily. I have not had any problems like that. An oscillating tool with a half round blade is by far the best for cutting.
One mistake that I made during installation was leaving a couple of panels laying one on top of another that were exposed to strong sunlight for a brief time, but overheating resulted in fogging very quickly.
I would still recommend this product, but only for an appropriate application, one that doesn't have the conditions that I have.
