Asked by: Dipa
Proper gapping is crucial for the installation of TimberTech composite deck boards to allow for expansion and contraction due to temperature changes. Side-to-Side Gapping should be a minimum 1/8" to a maximum 3/16". Butt Joint Gapping (Based on Temperature at Time of Installation) - **32°F & Below**: 3/16" - **33°F to 74°F**: 1/8" - **75°F & Above**: 1/32" Proper spacing aids in water drainage and ventilation, reducing the risk of excessive expansion and contraction. Also, be sure to fasten the deck boards as soon after cutting as possible to minimize changes in board length due to temperature fluctuations. Following these guidelines will help ensure a durable and aesthetically pleasing deck installation.
