The Sun Joe SWJ806E 2-in-1 convertible electric pole chain and saw takes the danger and difficulty out of trimming overgrown trees. Stand safely on solid ground and simply adjust Sun Joe’s telescoping pole o gain up to 15-ft of overhead reach. Later, when the limbs are down and the wood need to be cut, Sun Joe quickly converts to a hand-held chainsaw to make light work of loads of logs.

Good, but needs a design change
This is my second Sun Joe chainsaw, so overall this is a good product at a reasonable price. The SWJ806E is versatile and effective, even cutting through a 4-inch branch. My last Sun Joe SWJ8061E worked well for a year until I tried to cut through a 6-inch branch and the motor died. Maybe it was my fault trying to ask a small tool to do a big job, but it was good enough that I bought a second one. However, the purpose of this review is to point out a design deficiency and ask Sun Joe engineers and designers to address it. In both of these chain saws the tensioner screw to tighten the chain onto the sprocket is badly placed, inaccessible, user-unfriendly, and could be harmful to your hand when trying to tighten the screw. Here is the scenario: When assembling the guide bar and chain these are facing up toward you. In this orientation the chain tensioner screw is now in a small cavity behind the guide bar. You cannot see the screw or access it without flipping over the saw assembly. When you begin to flip over the saw the loose chain and guide bar fall off of the sprocket before you can grab the screw driver and tighten the chain. Remember, when you’re doing this after having used the saw your hands and the saw parts are oily and slippery, making the dexterity maneuver more difficult. If you succeed in turning over the saw and getting access to the tensioner flat-head screw you realize three issues: You can barely see the screw head, there isn’t enough room for your fingers to maneuver close to the saw blades to turn the screw, and you can’t apply enough torque to tighten the screw. Again, remember that your hands, the screw driver and screw head are oily. Another issue becomes evident when you finally find a convenient saw orientation to tighten the screw. To me, this convenient orientation is to hold the saw assembly vertically so that I can look down on the screw. Typically, in that orientation the rear end of the saw, where the electrical cable is, is resting on a table, sharply bending the cable. Since you’re tightening the screw, you’re forcing the saw down onto the bent cable. That can’t be good for the electrical wire. Let me offer a cheap solution so Sun Joe doesn’t have to redesign the whole saw: (1) Instead of the flat-head, slot screw, use a hex head screw so that the oily screw driver doesn’t slip out. (2) Provide a 90-degree angle screw driver/tool so that your fingers are well away from the chain blades and you can more easily apply a torque to tighten the screw.

misleading
say it goes 16'. That is only if you count the 5+ feet that includes you. The pole only extends about 3 feet longer than when not extended. It is around 8' long, including the pole and two part chain saw. Extended it is 11 feet and will reach 16 feet only because the operator is standing up. Deceptive description.

GREAT little trimming chain saw !!!
Bought this to help with general yard maintenance as climbing ladders is getting difficult to do. This unit carries a lot of "snot" to help with general tree and shrub trimming for a senior.

best product and best customer service
I have only owned my Sunjoe 8 inch-8amp pole saw for 2 months and I am in love with it. Easy to put together and use. I have had to contact their customer service 3 times and each time, the agents were professional, knowledgeable and kind. I dealt with "Patrick" last time and he was great. Will start buying this make for all my tool needs !!!!

I love this little BIG saw
I bought this to trim some tall trees in the backyard, it did a great job. It was easy to assemble right out of the box. The instructions are simple and straight forward I had it working in no time. There are videos on Youtube as well. This Sun Joe chainsaw is easy to use and works great. I'm almost 71 and didn't have any issues at all. One suggestion is to get a small funnel to add the oil. Thanks Sun Joe I'm now looking at your other products :)

Excellent Saw for Trimming Branches
This saw works great. It was pretty easy to put together. Installing the chain took a few minutes. Learning how to attach the pole to the saw was easy and quick and intuitive. The saw is powerful and quiet. I used it to trim down a 12 foot tall hedge that had gotten out of control and to trim one of my palm trees. I had started to cut back the hedge with my gas chain saw but it was old and froze up on me after a few minutes. The electric powered Sun Joe cut just as easily. Before buying this saw I usually used a hand saw to trim my palm. This Sun Joe electric pole chain saw was so much easier! Of course it is slightly heavier than my manual saw, but you can more easily reach branches and more easily cut them. One small reminder is that you have to purchase a bottle of chain saw oil to put into the saw before first use (and then check and add more as needed after using the saw) - I thought a bottle of oil would come with the saw but it did not so I did have to run to the store to buy chain saw oil during set up before I could use it. Also the instructions remind you that you will have to check the chain regularly and tighten it up, especially after first use. My experience was exactly that - the chain did loosen up after using it for about 20 minutes. The chain is easy to tighten with a screwdriver. Overall I am really happy with my purchase.
