Can the filters be dried out between use as we plan to use this filter during summer months when camping?
Hello and thank you for choosing Rainfresh! Yes you can re-use the ceramic filter cartridges but you must store these in the refrigerator before using again.

I'm considering this as the last of a 5 stage filter system into an RV holding tank to have potable water until our well is in. The first 4 stages would fill the RV tank, and this to go on the counter for cooking and drinking. Does this make sense?
Yes absolutely you can use the Rainfresh gravity filter as the final purification stage for cooking and drinking. It removes bacteria, coliform (such as E. coli), parasitic cysts, sediment (0.3 micron), chlorine and also improves water taste and odour.

You say the filter only lasts a year so can the unit take Berkey filters as they last 10 years?
You can figure out how much water you use per person and pet(s) per day by only taking water from a measured container for a few days. Establish that and then compare that usage against the specs for the filter to get your annual cost.Of course, Berkey unit sizes vary according to expected usage ie from single person usage, up to large groups. Likewise, each Berkey unit will require the use of varying numbers of filters per unit.to produce a the required amount of purified water, per day. The actual cost per volume of water is very, very low. Whereas, the value of good health and planetary sustainability is invaluable. It's that simple.

Does this unit filter out arsenic, heavy metal and e-coli? I draw water from a nearby river and need to know about this. Thank you
You could use something like a ZeroWater filter after this, which does a great job at metals and pharmaceuticals. They are more pricy, but with it being filtered once already, the zerowater filter should last a decent amount of time. Look for coupons online before buying a zerowater pitcher, or enter in a TDS reading and postal code to get their company coupon (US or Canada).
If you get a box of 8 filters for $100, it should last quite a long time.

Does anyone know if this will take the PF-2 Berkey Fluoride Filter?
I'm not 100% certain as I have not done this, but that said it's very likely it will fit: the filters are inserted into a drilled hole held in by a nylon nut and sealed with an o-ring.
Also note that the included Rainfresh filters will also remove fluoride they are .3 micron and fluoride requires .5 micron so they exceed the filter requirements.

What's the capacity of this unit in Gallons or liters. It doesn't look very big to me.
The unit has a treated water storage capacity of 8.5 L (2.25 US Gal). More than adequate to meet the drinking water needs of a family.

This unit looks identical to the Berkey without their logo. Is it made by Berkey for Rainfresh?
This is a Rainfresh product. Rainfresh is a Canadian manufacturer of ceramic filters for over 50 years!

how much time does it take to filter a full canister? what comes in the box? are filters included? life of the filters?
Four cleanable and re-usable filters are included with the unit. Each cartridge has a 1 year lifespan. The fill time depends on the feed water quality, however it takes approximately 6-8 hours for a full reservoir.

No more plastic water bottles
This is amazing. The water tastes good and it was relatively inexpensive. My well had turbidity, elevated magnesium and a little bacteria. You can see the difference in the colour. it does take a while to filter but seemed to get faster after the 2nd filling. The jug on the right was before the filter, after is on the left.

Cheapest way to filter water.
Purchased over a year ago when a nearby city was suffering water quality issues and local stores ran out of bottled water. We haven't needed it to purify but we have been using it anyways to remove chlorine and turbidity. The water tastes very pure after filtering even after a year with the same filters. The filters are not rated for copper and lead removal. I would recommend this as a great investment for pure water in many scenarios.

Good but not for chlorine
I love the gravity filter. It filters great but I am on municipal water and it isn't taking out the chlorine. I had new filters sent to me and I still have the same result. I wanted to use it for home and camping but it is no good for home.

Amazing water filter
After using this for a month I must say it works great, we were buying 18L jugs of water for drinking and this instantly started saving us money! The water we filter is from our well and it tastes very clean much better then city water or bottled water and no plastic particles or chemicals used in water treatment.

Excellent...better than Berkey
We used to have a Berkey filter which was quite expensive and unnecssarily overpriced at $500. I researched the Rainfresh product and found that its Canadian made and NSF certified and at under $200 including shipping it is far more affordable (less than half the price and free shipping to boot). The buckets have a high gloss mirror finish and the ceramic cartridges are also available from Lowe's. The lake water from this Rainfresh unit just tastes fantastic. Have sent the water for lab tests several times and every single time the bacteria and E. coli tests come out zero. Highly recommend this Canadian product!!

Potable Water anywhere
I have used the Rainfresh ceramic type under sink filter system for decades, now we will have the same quality water at the cottage without the need for running water. Was looking at another US brand at more than double the price when I came across this. Great price, in Canadian dollars and free shipping. Like the under sink filter system the filters are easy to clean. Highly recommended.

Hello, We are happy with the water that we'' get from the gravity filter. One disappointment is that we cannot see the level of filtered water in the lower container. If there is a way of manufacturing a container with a window to see the level of water like some electric kettles it be of great help This will prevent over filling that may cause leak and flooding
