The standard for hand-held routers
This router has been the standard for more than 40 years. It has all the features. Good power for its size. Accurate, high resolution depth adjustment. The easiest bit change technique ever made. The motor can be removed from the base just by loosening the base clamp and unscrewing the motor. The top of the motor is flat, allowing one to stand it upside down to change the bit. Easy change of the collets. Every kind of accessories like guide bushings and router inserts work with this router by default. There is a really nice D-handle base that works with this motor. The same collets for this router work with the 3-1/4 HP fixed base and plunge routers (also best in class rounters).
There is one big problem with all Porter Cable (corded) routers: they are no longer manufactured. So sad.

One problem.
As numerous online reviews have stated, one of my top cap screws sheared off at the router body immediately. With some duct tape I was able to hold the cap in place for the day to finish my job before returning it. The router worked great, plenty of power for the very large cut I was making. I have been using Porter Cable tools for 40+ years with two smaller routers and a porta-plane still running strong. Sadly the Chinese takeover of manufacturing gives these kind of results. I liked the router's ability but would recommend immediately replacing the cheap screws with grade 5 or 8 before using. Small effort for what I believe is still a great router.

Don't waste your money
The screws that hold the black lid in place sheared apart while in use, how this happened I don't know but it could have caused a serious problem if I hadn't caught it before pushing a workpiece through.
If screws that are not involved in the function of the router are shearing apart I'm not willing to continue using this router as Porter Cable obviously uses cheap or defective hardware in their tools.
Ignoring the defects, this router just sucks, 27,500 rpm is dangerously fast. Every single router bit I have considered buying says "Max 24,000 rpm", that extra 3,500rpm could lead to bit failure, or from my experiences it just doesn't cut nicely.
Sadly now I'm out the cost of this router and have sworn off all Porter Cable tools.
