Rated 1 out of 5 by from Turned my Ikea furniture PINK Used Colonial Maple 223 on brand new untreated pine bookshelf from Ikea. Followed all of the directions including stirring and wiping after 5 minutes and it turned the whole piece a light coral pink color! Not nearly as rich of a color as I thought it would look and now I am stuck with a pink bookshelf and wasted money

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Stain doesn't dry; project is ruined. First thing's first: let's talk about the stripe of woodgrain shown on the label of this product. It would be intuitive for this to show the approximate color of the stain in question; I get that the color of the wood itself will change it a bit so an exact match isn't really possible...on the other hand the labels for the various colors looked like the same color to me, but with a different wood grain pattern. Are they all the same mid-tone brown? Because the "red mahogany" stain I bought isn't very red, which reading these reviews seems to be a common problem. Project is brand new yellow pine sanded to 220 grit. Applied pre-stain conditioner per that can's instructions: brushed on a liberal coat, let it soak in for ~10 minutes, wiped off excess. Applied Minwax Wood Finish stain, let that sit ~5 minutes, wiped off excess...not much came off. Now I've seen people really trowel this stuff on, put on a good quarter inch of it or so such that you can't see the grain through it...I couldn't get it to do that, it wanted to soak into the rag more than it wanted to go onto the wood. Nevertheless it turned the wood rather brown. It's kinda ugly, too. Blotchy and horrible? So the pre-stain conditioner is also a fraud. It's the next day and it's still in the same condition; the finish hasn't dried. Still a little bit comes off on a rag if you rub it. I tried putting some finish (Minwax "Tung Oil Finish") on, and the rag turned dark brown like the one I used to put the stain on in the first place. So I'm pretty sure it's just not going to dry and it's going to seep brown gunk forever and will eventually stain everything I own.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from i have a question the ask a question button was broken. as is your word counter for this post. lol. it should count down, not up. OK. the question is why is this product labled in highlighted yellow text INDOOR USE ONLY? what makes this oil based stain unsuitable for outdoors? i hope you can shed some light on this.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Simply White Semitransparent I am very disappointed in this product. The application instructions say to brush on and leave for 15 minutes and wipe off. it was so dry after 5 minutes it would not move or level. I thought my project was ruined. I had to wet a rag with paint thinner to cut the stain and remove the excess. The Semitransparent white is a lot thicker than other stains. My new problem is how do I match the color on the 3 different pieces all have custom molding making it very difficult or impossible to sand. MINWAX appears to have the same instructions for every color.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Red mahogany #225 I bought a quart of the red mahogany, then bought a gallon and they are w totally different colors...why is that??

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Inaccurate stain color Inaccurate color stain. I purchased the golden oak semi-transparent oil based stain for my dining room table legs and it turned out like dark walnut. Had to take it off with mineral spirits then an oil based stripper, sand it, then wood bleach. And it still has a horrible smell even though there's no stain left on the wood. How do I take off the horrible stain smell? What a horrible experience. Never again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Only the Most Trusted! Growing up, I'd help my father with wood projects for our house. I remember seeing him always using Minwax stains. Today, at 46, I do custom wood projects for people and Minwax is the only brand I use for stains and protectants. They are easy to use and have a gorgeous finish.
