BEWARE - INCORRECT HOLE SIZE IN TEMPLATE MOUNTING INSTRUCTIONS
BUYER TAKE NOTICE - INCORRECT HOLE SIZE SHOWN IN INSTRUCTIONS
I purchased what I expected to be a quality product from a well-respected manufacturer - KOHLER but am sadly disappointed. This intended to replace an old 2-handle shower faucet system on a fiberglass shower enclosure. The instructions show that in order to install the plastic template, the first step is to drill a 4" (102mm) hole in the wall. This hole supposedly allows enough spacing within a 4-1/2" radius to drill and install 4 screws through the wall and in to the template. This is intended to hold the template and valve body tight and at the proper depth for later installation of handles and faceplates. As per instructions, I drilled a 4" hole. However when putting the template in place, the mounting holes fell well within the 4" diameter making it impossible to mount the template as intended. Perhaps I misread the instructions but they are misleading at least if not completely incorrect. Kohler also promotes a video which I believe also mentions the 4" hole. Probably a 3-1/2" hole would work but I'm not sure that would provide enough space to install/remove the valve body in the future. I will probably resort to mounting the valve body to a 2x4 at the correct spacing. A simplified mounting system KOHLER should consider would utilize a mounting ring that could fit on the inside of the wall with a larger OD and 4 aligned holes for the screws that would hold the template in place if a larger hole is drilled. Off to a disappointing start

Old trim, new valve.
Easy to install if the installer is comfortable with sweating copper pipes. I am happy it came with the conversion ring. I had an older trim which originally was installed with a 304 valve.

Pressure & Temperature Issues
I bought this product in August 2022, for a complete bathroom remodel which was complete in December 2022. I was not able to use the bathroom until March 2023. At that time the water pressure seemed a little weak and the temperature was also not as hot but now they both are not working. The installation was done done professionally so I don't know what the issue is. Please help!!!!!!

"Universal" valve is incompatible with most Kohler high-end trims
We discovered the hard way that Kohler have dozens of valves and trims, and they don't always work together, even when marketed as "universal". Kohler website doesn't provide a list of trims that pair with appropriate valves and vice versa. They get a big fail on that basic customer messaging. So, before your plumber and tiler roughs in the wrong valve at thousands of dollars, make sure you have the compatible equipment in hand. We regret not going with another brand.

Cartridge failed - 11 months
Eleven (11) months after professional installation, I noticed some dripping. While at first, I put it down to the kids not turning the faucet off all the way, the issues got worse to where it now had cartridge has failed, and I need to buy a new one.

Drips when "off" shortly after install
Had this valve body installed and worked well for about 2 months. After that, the shower started to drip when the valve body is in the "off" position. Will be trying a replacement part.

This cartridge was installed by builder in area with hard water and ice had to replace shower cartridge every 1 to 2 months.

Wonderful control of hot water and pressure
We bought this a couple months ago it was easy to install, and the pressure is wonderful. Our house is on well water, and it’s always difficult to get good pressure.
