Description
This Super Cascade bottom water entry water heater from Giant® offers 10% more ready-to-use hot water. The interior of the tank is coated with a blue cobalt glass enhanced with zircon, a feature unique to Giant®. This water heater is equipped with low-density elements, adjustable thermostats with automatic temperature control. Its high-quality magnesium anode offers 17% greater protection against the corrosive effects of water. In addition, its GreenFoam® ecological foam insulation contains no HCFCs, CFCs nor VOCs. A complete exhaust pipe with a 90° elbow, a fitting and a safety valve are provided. This product is manufactured in Canada and is backed by a 10-year limited warranty on tank perforation and a 5-year warranty on parts. To benefit from the warranty, the water heater must not be laid on its side during transportation.

Great Tank
Replaced previous Giant Super Cascade 40 gal hot water tank that had started leaking. Previous tank was almost 20 years old. Used Rona's express delivery. Ordered just before lunch and was delivered early afternoon.

Worst thing ever
I bought this 2 months ago.
The worst this I ever bought. It runs out of hot water after two loads of laundry. Brand new piece of garbage. Was a fan of Giant… Now I will never touch that crap again.

Poor Quality Control
Three days after installation, noticed a damp spot under the water heater just below the bottom element access hatch. Removed the hatch cover and found it was wet and had rust marks. The insulation was also wet. Removed the insulation and found that one of the bolts that clamp the element was not tightened. It was sticking out about 1/4" and I could turn it with my fingers. Tightened it and tested the other three bolts and none of them had been torqued. No leaks since I torqued them. Clearly, Giant does not test their products before leaving the factory.
Wish I had read more reviews before buying, but if you check out reviews of other Giant models here you fill find reports of similar quality control issues. Unfortunately, all Canadian made water heaters are now owned by the same US parent company, so there are no Canadian made options.

Heat traps?
The Giant website states that unit comes with factory installed heat traps, so I was surprised to find that I could see right inside the tank through plain dielectric nipples. I called the tech support line, and was told that these plastic lined nipples are the heat traps. Other brands come with an actual heat trap using either a floating ball or flap to prevent heat loss. I ended up using an old style external trap on the plumbing. Unit was dented on arrival. Otherwise works as expected.

Excellent! Mais vérifier la «tork» de l'anode
Ce chauffe-eau remplace exactement le même modèle que j'avais avant. Je le remplace après 10 ans tel que demandé par les assurances, mais il était encore bon. Comme je suis à la campagne et qu'avec l'anode fournie, l'eau risque de sentir le souffre après 1 semaine. Je devrai ajouter des pastilles de zinc (et éventuellement mettre une anode d'aluminium). Mais je n'arrivais pas à dévisser l'anode (à cause de la dilatation des pièces dû à la chaleur). Donc, avant de remplir pour la première fois, assurez-vous que l'anode n'est pas serrée trop fort. PS: J'ai finalement réussi à la dévisser en vidant un peu d'eau chaude du sommet et en mettant un morceau de glace sur la tête de l'anode pour que les pièces se rétractent

It works ,sent in the warranty card a month ago but haven't heard back from Giant so hopefully they will stand behind their 10 year warranty if we need to cash that in.

Our Giant Super Cascade is over 15 years old
We bought it in 2008, installed it ourselves, and it has worked flawlessly since then.
