Can this be set to lock automatically so that if a pool gate was left open, once set to ‘locked’, it can no longer be opened from either side? It trying to meet pool enclosure requirements.
Hi,
once the latch is set to locked with the key it can't be opened from either side. If not locked with the key it can be opened with the push button. If you need a pool latch you can place a special order with the store. The pool latch will also stay unlocked if not locked manually with key, but it is designed so the latch handle is at least 54'' above the ground keeping it well out of the reach of young children.
There are two Boerboel latches available: Standard 21 3/4'' tall item # 73024442 and the compact 15 3/8'' item # 73028118. The lenght you should buy will be determined by the height of the pool fence. Always refer to the building code in your area. Thank you

Good functional design.
Been looking for a system like this for ages. Because I have metal posts, it was a bit tricky to drill the holes straight. Nevertheless, it installed well and seems to be holding nicely.

Frustrated
I was excited to get a new gate lock because we have thefts
in our neighbourhood.
The screws supplied are no match for steel posts even though this
is recommended for wood or metal gates. I had a professional
come in to drill the holes but the screw heads kept snapping.
I understand that screws will snap so we kept setting the drill to a
lower speed but to no avail. I went and bought some stainless
steel screws thinking they might be stronger but they also kept
snapping. The installer went to Rona and bought other recommended screws.
They still did not work so I went to Rona today and spoke with
customer service and in the end they really didn't know what to do.
They recommended other screws but I cannot see how they would
be any different because they are the same brand
made out of the same stainless steel.
I understand it's not Rona's fault that the steel is so hard but you
would think there'd be a solution as this gate had a latch on
previously.
The instructions tell you to drill 1/8 inch holes and 1/2 inch holes.
The problem with the half inch holes is not big enough to
allow for one of the rod mechanisms (female) to fit flush so
that hole must be drilled larger.
I am not sure what to do next but I will check the Internet again.
That is where I read that cobalt drills were best for steel.
Two of these drill bits snapped as well. But the guy who
drilled the holes used carbide tips which were way better.

Not Happy
Got it few months ago. The locking mechanism had a problem from the beginning. Right now, another problem came up by having a colder weather. the latch will get stuck in the up position and disappear into the housing. You can't get it back out unless you hit it on something.
