Great result, medium complexity assembly
We decided to get a Murphy bed instead of a pull out couch in a spare bedroom that is rarely occupied. It maximizes space and is more comfortable than any pull out couch that I have tried due to its use of a regular mattress (10 inch memory foam) instead of a flimsy folding mattress.
Assembly took about 7 hours for someone who is experienced and had all the right tools (electric screwdriver with hex bits, my own set of allen wrenches, rubber mallet etc. Unpacking the three boxes and sorting the parts took about 45 minutes alone. I would keep some of the cardboard to work on to avoid damage to your floors and the cabinet during assembly. Also you will need to save a corner cap of the packing material for some steps of the assembly, which they don't tell you in the beginning, so I had to fish mine out of my recycling bin.
The bed must be installed flush with the wall, so the instructions suggest removing the baseboard and quarter round. I didn't want to do this, so I cut the cabinet to fit over the baseboard, which necessitated drilling new holes for the cabinet's adjustable feet, as the pre drilled holes were too close to the new edge of the cabinet for my liking. ( I didn't want them to rip out and damage the cabinet.
The bed frame itself is made of steel in two main parts, so it is very sturdy. Some steps of the assembly (10%) required a second person. You cannot assemble this with just one person.
The completed bed looks great and is very sturdy. It requires a good tug to get down, although this may decrease with time as the gas assistance struts are new.
Do not buy this bed before knowing whether you are allowed to securely fasten it to the wall (eg if you are a tenant or have to deal with a condo corporation). Substantial and long wood screws (If you have wooden studs behind your walls) or specialty anchors (if you have metal studs) are required as you will definitely tear down your wall when pulling down the bed if it is not properly secured.
Some of the parts were identified with stickers which were missing, so a careful examination of the assembly manual was required to identify parts which was a pain. Also the assembly manual could have more clearly identified tricky assembly steps.
In conclusion, we are very happy with the completed bed.
