Plastic drain valve??
The plastic (polypropylene?) bottom drain valve was cracked on arrival. We figured no big deal, lets just replace it. Seems to be a replaceable part as it is listed in the manual as such… this piece is definitely not meant to be replaced! It is glued in and can not be removed easily. The valve broke and broke again and again when trying to remove. Ended up spending a lot of time carefully drilling it out, filing down to the threads melting the first bit with a soldering iron and then slowly following what appeared to be threads with a 3/4” tap, bit by bit removing the plastic…. Not an easy job.
Questioning a company that would cut corners to save a couple dollars per unit by using a plastic drain valve, and gluing it in at that?... So far 2 stars… hoping that the unit will function in “traditional” Ao smith quality… which may ease the painful setup…time will tell!
