Not worth the money. Poor quality and poor design.
I bought two of these in the summer of 2020, so 3 years ago now. The size is nice, and the style looks nice, but they’re poorly designed, and don’t hold up.
The self watering feature requires that you fill these with a lot of water. The problems with that are:
- The fill hole is very small, so it takes a long time to fill, and you can’t just put the hose into the opening. You have to stand there the whole time and aim the water.
- Once I had finally filled these, I discovered that they were leaking from the bottom corners. I had to take the plants out, empty the water out, let them dry, and then put silicone sealant all around all of the bottom corners of both planters.
- Even though these hold a lot of water, the dirt inside, which acts as a “wick”, doesn’t go down very far at all, so you have to keep filling these with water constantly.
- At one point, I just stopped adding water to the trough, and watered from above as I would with any other planter, but when the troughs don’t have much water in them, the planters are top heavy, and the wind blew them over, because they weigh next to nothing. So I had to make sure they always had water inside anyway.
- At the end of the season, I found it next to impossible to
drain the water out of these. There are a few plugs you can remove to try to get the water out, but there’s always some left inside, and because this planter is one piece - you cannot remove the inside part to access the part that holds the water - so there’s no way to properly clean it out.
The other downside about these planters is that they are made of thin plastic with a fairly low melting point, and the heat of the sun warped the sides of these, so they no longer look nice.
