Paid for itself with the first tree and kept going
We bought this back in 2016 (possibly 2015) to take down some sick cherry trees that were 23-25cm in width at chest height, figured it was worth a shot instead of hiring someone for tree removal. I found it easy to learn to use (I did read the manual, that usually helps ;-) ), and discovered I have an innate talent for getting the limbless trunks to fall precisely where I want them to, avoiding damage to other plants.
That year this chainsaw took down and sectioned for firewood two such trees, cherry being a hardwood I had to sharpen the the chain a few times (also found that was fairly easy to learn to do). Including the stumps! I dug them up then used this chainsaw to cut them up into stove-sized chunks (stumps won't split with an axe).
Then I put it on a shelf for a few years, until last year our magnolia tree (another hardwood) died in deep frost (possibly the coldest winter we've had here, short though), was able to take down and section for firewood that tree too (it was around 25cm wide if you added up the trunks). Having finally dug up the stump this year, I was just in the process of turning it into stove-sized chunks when I discovered I couldn't take up the slack in the chain anymore - I've used up all of the chainsaw's spare guide bar! It's too short, apparently I ground it down on those three trees, needs a new one now. The chain itself is probably on its last sharpening too.
Considering new guide bars are around $25, new chains around $20, it almost sounds worth it to just buy a whole new saw, but the electric motor and belt within this old one still look/sound fine, I think I'll invest in replacement parts and keep it going a while longer.
