Works well, but you need to be careful using it.
I bought this item today at the Welland Rona to reattach a length of eavestrough and drooping soffit 20 feet up. It worked very well to stabilize my extension ladder leaning against a brick exterior. However, the standoff arms are only a friction fit in the uppermost ladder rungs, and when sliding the ladder sideways one of them fouled on the brick and was pulled out of the rungs about halfway, which I did not notice until I climbed to the top again. So had to climb back down, lower the ladder, reset the arm properly and raise the ladder again. A fair bit of extra effort, and what I would consider a safety near-miss, though I had the ladder tied off securely. The actual stand-off distance from the wall was minimal - a couple of inches. The real benefit of this kit is stability.
This set is a fraction of the cost of a pro model, but not as safe and manoeuvrable. For occasional home use it’s a good bet. If you can figure out a way to lock the arms in place, so much the better.

Misleading information the arms made of steel
Item are made of steel not stainless steel. But it working very well. I should get it when I brought my ladder 15 years ago. It was much stable for using to climb up.

Make extension ladder much safer to use
Easy to install and they really stabilize the ladder. Wanted it to repair the gutters and leaf guards on second story. Was hoping to lean the ladder against the wall but the offset is only 12" and my overhang is 18", so it did not work in my situation. Another seller says the offset is 19", so that is why I bought them. But this info is definitely wrong.
Had to push the ladder much higher than I wanted so that the arms would sit on the roof. Not easy to get the arms properly placed because you are kind of guessing how they are sitting up there and not a lot of reach (offset) so I would get up there and at times, find the arms on the edge of the shingles. But once properly placed, quite stable. Should have gotten these decades ago. Rona has the best price in town.
